DEPARTMENT 62 - 4-H YOUTH EXHIBITS
JUNIOR FAIR ENTRIES CLOSE MAY 30
Eligibility: Classes in Sections 1-8 are determined by 4-H project enrollment.
Premiums: Eligible exhibitors will receive a premium based on their project evaluation grade of blue, red or white. Exhibitors may receive only one premium per project judging/evaluation (class).
Criteria for Judging/Evaluation: The judging/evaluation process for 4-H projects will include:
A. An interview with a judge (s):
B. Exhibition of a project item and/or educational display;
C. A completed project book;
D. Participation in a skills component. (in some sections and class)

Criteria for 4-H Project Items/Displays: A project item includes item (s) made, constructed, created, produced, grown and/or designed by the exhibitor based on project guidelines and requirements. An educational display may be a poster, exhibit board, mobile, model, collage, kit, storyboard or other creative 3-dimensinal presentation of project work. A project book does not constitute a project item, exhibit and/or display.
Evaluation Scores for 4-H Projects: Blue premiums are awarded to evaluation grades of 85 to 100%. Red premiums are awarded to evaluation grades of 65-84%. White premiums are awarded to evaluation grades of 64% and below.
Superior and Outstanding Awards for 4-H Projects: Superior ribbons will be presented for an evaluation grade of 100 %. Outstanding ribbons will be presented for evaluation grades between 95 and 99 %.
Evaluation Check-In Time: 4-H and FFA exhibitors should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to their scheduled project evaluation judging time to complete check-in procedures at the Junior Fair Activities Tent. For complete check-in procedures and times, review the 4-H Pre-Fair Packet.
Special Awards for 4-H Projects: Best of Class/Show or Project, 4-H State Fair Selection and 4-H State Fair Alternate selections are explained under each section, if applicable and/or if available at time of Junior Fair Premium Book printing. Only members with complete project books and an evaluation score of 85 or above are eligible for 4-H State Fair Selection, 4-H State Fair Alternate or Best of Class/Show/Project Awards.
Awards Ceremony: Awards will be presented at the conclusion of judging.
Distribution of Premium Checks: Premium checks are distributed through the Senior Fair Office. Time for distribution will vary. Please check with Junior Fair Chair( s) and Advisors.
Entry Requirements: All exhibitors must make entry on an official Junior Fair Entry Form found in the back of the Junior Fair Premium Book. No class additions and/or changes will be allowed. All entries are due by May 30 to the Franklin County Junior Fair Board.
Required Exhibit Display: At the conclusion of all judging, the exhibitor is responsible for placing his/her project exhibit in his/her clubs/chapters/youth groups booth. Any exhibitor not exhibiting their project display will forfeit premiums.

Eligibility: Any 4-H or FFA member is eligible to participate in the Public Speak Event. However, 4-H and FFA members are not competing against each other in this contest. All participants should follow the Guidelines for State Fair 4-H Communication Day Event.
Entry Requirements: 4-H and FFA members must complete a Public Speaking/Communication Entry Form found in the back of the Junior Fair Premium Book for each Public Speaking Event he/she wish to enter. Attach the Public Speaking Form (s) to your Junior Fair Entry Form. Make sure that you list your Public Speaking Entries on your Junior Fair Entry Form to be eligible for premiums. ENTRIES CLOSE MAY 30, NO EXCEPTIONS.
State Fair Selection and District 4-H Eligibility: Only 4-H members are eligible for State Fair Selection and Alternate Awards. Only 4-H members selected from classes 8, 9 and 10 are eligible to represent Franklin County at the District Health and Safety Day. Only 4-H members or teams with an evaluation score of 85% or above are eligible for State Fair Selection, State Fair Alternate, District Selection or District Alternate Awards.
Age Divisions: See the classes above for age requirements. All ages classifications are age as of January 1st of the current year.
These Items May Not Be Used For Public Speaking: The following items may not be used for Illustrated Talks or Demonstrations: Large animals (horse, beef, sheep, goat, dairy or hogs over 20 pounds). Instead members should use models, photographs, or illustrations to make their point when giving a talk about large animals. No firearms, bows, arrows and weapons. Plastic replicas are permitted but we urge caution in the use of items that look truly authentic in that they may create concerns with Fair Security and may not be permitted on the grounds.
Items That Can Be Used: Animals under the weight of 20 pounds may be used in a demonstration; provided that the animals do not place the public at risk and that meet all of the health requirements established by the Ohio State Fair Health Regulations. Current health and shot records must be carried with the animal. Animals must remain caged or leashed before and after the presentation.
Presentation Requirements: All work is to be original work created by the 4-H member(s) for 4-H Club work. Members using computer generated or other Audio Visual Equipment must bring their own equipment. Movie Screen will be provided.
Illustrated Talk or Demonstration without use of Computer Technology:
May use charts, posters, pictures
No PowerPoint or computer generated messages
Illustrated Talk or Demonstration with use of Computer Technology - Accompanied with live narration.
Demonstration - PowerPoint Side in addition to other props

4-H Multi-Media Presentations
Fully automated, stand alone presentation using video, pictures, slides, PowerPoint or other home/office computer generated programs along with sound narration
Should be recorded visual, sound and narration - only requires an introduction by the participant
Participate will be interviewed and must be able to explain the steps taken to develop the presentation and knowledge of the topic
Health and Safety Speeches
Must be on a topic of health or safety that affects family living at home, on the farm, on the highway or in a public place.
May NOT use any visual aides or notes
Health and Safety Skits
Must be on a topic of health or safety that affects family living at home, on the farm, on the highway or in a public place.
Must consist of 2-5 members
May not use prompters or posters, but may use props and be in costume as long as all members are fully clothed and wearing shoes.
Required Time Lengths:

Eligibility: Any 4-H member currently enrolled in a 4-H clothing project may participate in the Total Look Evaluation and Skills on July 7th and the Fashion Revue on July 14th.
Evaluation Times by Project: Check the 4-H Pre-Fair Packet for specific times for each 4-H clothing project.
Eligibility for Awards and Premiums: Only 4-H clothing project members who meet all of the following are eligible for 4-H State Fair Selection and State Fair Alternate Awards, Modeling, Construction, and Skill-a-thon awards, Honorable Mention Award and premiums:
A. All project requirements including a completed project book and an evaluation score of 85 or above and;
B. Participation in both the Total Look Evaluation/Skills and Fashion Revue.
Eligibility and Quotas for State Fair Selections and Alternates: All 4-H clothing classes are eligible for State Fair Selection and State Fair Alternates. The number of State Fair Selection and Alternates will be chosen based on the State quota.
Requirements for Total Look Evaluation and Skills Section on June 28th:
A. 4-H member must provide swatch of fabric for garment (s) constructed;
B. 4-H member must provide picture of themselves wearing the garment (full length view);
C. 4-H member must bring completed project book;
D. 4-H member must be prepared to have garment inspected and critiqued for construction by judges while modeling the garment;
E. 4-H member must be prepared to demonstrate skills learned in the project through participation in skill stations.
F. 4-H member must provide a Description/Style Revue Form describing the garment (s) constructed or selected as part of their
4-H project.
Selection Criteria for State Fair Selection and Alternates: Only exhibitor with a complete project book, an evaluation score of 85 or above and a skill-a-thon score of 25 and above are eligible for 4-H State Fair Selection, State Fair Alternate, or Honorable Mention.
Fashion Revue Check-In: 4-H participants will be expected to be at the Ganyard Building 30 minutes prior to the start of the 4-H Fashion Revue to register and change.
Awards Ceremony: State Fair Selection; Alternates, Honorable Mention, Skill-a-thon, Modeling and Construction Awards will be presented at the end of the Fashion Revue. Superior, Outstanding, Blue, Red, and White ribbons will be given at the Total Look Evaluation.
Modeling Awards Criteria: A top modeling award will be given to a Junior, Intermediate and Senior 4-H Clothing Project. Judging will be based on poise, personality, style and how well the garment is presented. Eligible ages of exhibitors for modeling awards are as follows: Junior (8-11 years old), Intermediate (12-14 years old), Senior (15-18 years old) as of January 1 of the current year.
Construction Awards Criteria: A top construction award will be given to a Junior, Intermediate, and Senior 4-H Clothing Project. Selection will be based on the judge's inspection of clothing construction during Total Look Evaluations. Eligible ages of exhibitors for construction awards are as follows: Junior (8-11 years old), Intermediate (12-14 years old), Senior (15-18 years old) as of January 1 of the current year.
Skill-a-thon Awards Criteria: Each exhibitor participating in the skill-a-thon will receive a pen. 1st -5th Place Skill-a-thon Awards will be given in each project area. Skills for the Skill-a-thon will be based on the skills selected for each project and as explained in the sewing pre-fair packet. Skill-a-thon Awards are based totally on the skills component conducted at the Total Look Evaluation on June 28th.
Clothing Exhibits: Following the Fashion Revue, all exhibitors must place their 4-H clothing project in their 4-H club booth to receive a premium. It is strongly recommended that exhibitors cover their 4-H clothing project with clear plastic to protect them from dust.

4-H Cloverbud Show-n-Tell Requirements:
Bring one item the Cloverbud has made in conjunction with 4-H during the current year (during a club meeting or as a result of a club activity). Examples: paper airplane, poster or a recycled notebook. Animals and perishable food are not acceptable items to bring.
Share the item, describe how the item was made, and what you learned for the experience.
Display 4-H Cloverbud item in your club booth or in the countywide 4-H booth.
Release Time: 4-H Cloverbud Show-n-Tell items can be picked up from the Ganyard Building Sunday, July 20nd, between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.

Eligibility for Class Entry: Any 4-H member currently enrolled in a 4-H Food and Nutrition or Food Science project may enter in classes 1-19.
Evaluation Times by Project: Check the 4-H Pre-Fair Packet for specific evaluation times for each 4-H Food and Nutrition Project.
Project Requirements: See evaluation requirements in the Franklin County 4-H Project Evaluation Guide.
Evaluation Check-In: 4-H members should arrive 15 minutes prior to their class being evaluated.
Age Eligibility for Best Nutrition Knowledge:
Junior Best Nutrition Knowledge - Age 8 (and in third grade) to 11 as of current year
Intermediate Best Nutrition Knowledge - Age 12 - 14 as of current year
Advanced Best Nutrition Knowledge - Age 15 - 18 as of current year
Tasting of Food by Judge(s): The judge(s) will taste prepared food items unless there is a food safety concern. Plates, napkins and utensils will be provided for the testing by the Junior Fair Board Foods and Nutrition Advisor(s).
Food Safety: Exhibitors should keep in mind the importance of food safety issues when selecting their prepared food item to bring to judging. Items that must be served and/or stored cold or hot must meet specific temperature guidelines to be eaten safely. Prepared food items may be tested with a thermometer by the judge(s) or fair official(s) to see if they meet food safety guidelines. All food items must be covered.
Eligibility for State Fair Selections and Alternates: Classes 1-13 are eligible for State Fair Selection and Alternate. Breads of the Harvest and Science Fun with Dairy Foods are not eligible for State Fair Selection and Alternate awards, but for Best of Class awards. Only members with complete project books and an evaluation of 85 or above will be eligible for State Fair Selection, Alternate, Honorable Mention and Best of Class Awards.
Honorable Mention: May be selected in any State Fair Category or Best of Class Category.
Place Setting Contest: There will be a Place Setting Contest held in conjunction with Foods and Nutrition Evaluations. Any Franklin County student or resident age 8 and in the third grade to 18 years of age as of January 1 of the current year is eligible to enter. Best Nutrition Project Book Awards: Exhibitors must leave their project books if enrolled in Class 17-19. Project Books must be picked up at the conclusion of the judging.
